The FoxRox Hot Silicon Fuzz is just the ticket for 1960s-style, silicone-based Fuzz Face-tones, made famous by Jimi Hendrix (among many others) at his legendary Woodstock, Band of Gypsies and Isle of Wight gigs. The Hot Silicone uses hand-selected BC109C-transistors.

  • Controls:
Volume: adjusts the output signal level. There's plenty of volume boost on tap.
Fuzz: together with the Grit-knob, Fuzz will control the amount of distortion. By experimenting with these two controls, you will find a whole plethora of different fuzz-tones. Approaching 5 o'clock the signal will reach the area of self-oscillation, taking on a life of it's own. If your signal becomes too hard to control, you should drop your Fuzz-level a little bit.
Grit: affects your attack, as well as the pedal's tone and the amount of fuzz.
At 7 o'clock the tone is warm and powerful, which works especially well when overdriving a tube amp. This is the fat fuzz-sound so familiar from many records of the Sixties and Seventies.
At 12 o'clock the sound is smooth, with a lot of fuzz and sustain. This is an easy-to-control Grit-level. If you want to be able to clean up your sound using the guitar's volume knob, you should stick to Grit-settings between 10 and 1 o'clock.
At 5 o'clock the sound is clipping heavily, breaking up and burning out. For the meanest and rudest of fuzz-sounds, you should set Grit somewhere between 2 and 5 o'clock. The signal will become unruly and hard to control, sometimes there might even be a gating-style effect to your sustain. At this extreme end the pedal is designed to give you all kinds of unexpected sounds, mimicking the effects of non-selected transistors and old batteries in vintage fuzzes. These settings sound best through a very loud amp.
Input Pad Switch: this little switch allows you to drop the pedal's input gain for use with very powerful pickups.
Power Switch: If you power the pedal with a battery, you can turn the power off via this switch, so that the battery isn't drained when the pedal is not in use.
  • Power requirements: 2.1mm 9V DC power supply (negative centre) or 9V battery. 12 mA.
